Relational Aesthetics
Day for Descendants Art & Altars are meant to be relational–on an annual day of celebration in the Spring, and every day with portable altars and mindfulness. Point is to keep future people and places better in mind when we make decisions large and small each day. In a purposeful way, this is relational within ourselves.
Relational aesthetics is an art movement established in the mid 1990s and continuing today. From The Art Story…
“Works of Relational Aesthetics are typically based upon the artist’s communication of his or her mission in a public, as opposed to institutional, space where the viewing population is not limited to the traditional art spectator. Thus, by expanding the works’ exposure to a more far-reaching viewership, these pieces are often considered examples of temporary democracies.” –The Art Story
“The role of artworks is no longer to form, imaginary and utopian realities, but to actually be ways of living and models of action within the existing real, whatever scale, chosen by the artist.”
–Nicolas Bourriaud
“Art is a state of encounter.”
–Nicolas Bourriaud
